Smaller Earth is a work and travel programs provider with a mission to change the world by inspiring people to go further. It’s a group of hard workers from all over the world who connect and inspire people through cultural exchange.

The company has 15 international offices from which they send thousands of young people to new places where they gain experience and add profound meaning to their lives.

It all began back in 1999 with Camp Leaders, inspired by the experience of Chris Arnold who has just come back from a camp in America. They've grown into a trusted and well-known leader in the summer camp industry and a top provider of international cultural exchange opportunities. Smaller Earth is there to provide life-changing experiences all over the globe to be the spark of inspiration for the next generation.

Challenge

The Managing Director of Cleversteam asked us to redesign their website to make it clearer, more accessible and better-looking. It’s another cooperation with Cleversteam, the company derived from SmallerEarth.

Our goal wasn’t only to create a good-looking website. Our client wanted the users to feel comfortable on the website, to find all necessary information easily, to have the opportunity to learn something and feel entertained at the same time.

The website enables visitors to:

  • find all the necessary information about work and travel camps in different countries (along with pictures and movies)
  • browse rates and reviews from other travellers who already took part
  • apply for Summer Camp, Summer Jobs, Gap Year Jobs, Outdoor Jobs, Student Jobs, Resort Jobs and others
  • apply to become a Creator through a dedicated form
  • read articles about travelling
  • book an Information Session with teachers and educators
  • get in touch with the Smaller Earth team and many more.

Project's scope

We started our cooperation with a 1-day analysis of the requirements and purposes. The aim was to design a convenient and modern website for young people, to be implemented by our Partner’s team. The idea was also to reflect the whole sense of participating in camps in the best possible way.

Using Sketch, we’ve designed a website that is pleasing to the eye and — most importantly — useful for people interested in taking part in work and travel adventures. Lots of features from the old website have been reworked in a new, finer way.

Communication

Communication is an important part of each project. No matter if we’re close or thousands of kilometers away from our Partner, at FiveDotTwelve we always make sure that it’s transparent and easy. In this project we used Slack and Gmail to discuss current topics, and Jira for project management and task progress tracking.

Development process

The discovery workshops lasted 1 day and UI/UX design development took us 80 hours.
