The Founder of Smaller Earth, Chris Arnold, saw a window of opportunity in the summer camp industry and, after being inspired by his own all American journey, he wanted to bring this life-changing program to as many people as possible.

With the Camp Leaders programme, the company has sent over 50,000 people on life-changing adventures. The team is driven by a belief that there’s nothing more important than making the world a better and more understanding place.

Challenge

The Managing Director from Cleversteam, a digital agency derived from Smaller Earth, came to us with a task to create a mobile app for Android devices. The app is to serve students who want to sign up for a Work and Travel programme and track their application.

The Camp Leaders app enables users to: 

  • Register and complete their profiles fast — the app suggests what to do next, so the applications are always up to date
  • Apply to Work and Travel programme — upload image and paperwork
  • Check the account balance and make in-app payments and with Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Get step-by-step instructions on the best way to get to the camp
  • Manage their flights 
  • Get notifications to keep up with their progress and find out when they're hired
  • Sign up for events like job fairs, interviews and prep days

Camp Leaders is the very first and only Work and Travel agency to create a mobile app for its participants. It’s the easiest way to make sure they never miss a thing.

Project's scope

Our cooperation started with three days of discovery workshops at our office in Łódź, also to dispel any doubts concerning the API. This gave us a chance to discuss all the challenges at an early stage and to understand the client’s business and purposes. 

The task was to create an app for Android based on an existing iOS version. We adapted the graphic design to the platform and started the development. Then, the solution ran through testing and the app was launched on mobile app stores. We were also responsible for creating a store listing.

In this project, creating the backend was on our Partner’s side, so we cooperated with an API developer through the process.

Communication

We believe that successful solutions come from transparent and easy communication. For the purposes of this project, we used Slack and Gmail to discuss current topics, and Jira for project management and task progress tracking. The meetings were held with Google Meet.
